Meet Darlene

Dr. Darlene Breaux is a lifelong educator, advocate, and servant leader running for Texas State Representative, House District 149. With over 25 years of experience as a teacher, mentor, school board president, and policy leader, she’s dedicated to building stronger, more equitable communities. Raised in a working-class family that valued education and hard work, she knows firsthand the challenges families face, and how policy can open doors to opportunity.

As Board President for Alief ISD and a Master Trustee with the Texas Association of School Boards, Dr. Breaux leads with integrity and results. She also serves as Director of the Texas Education Policy Institute (TEPI) and is the founder of Insight Ed. Consulting, helping organizations break barriers and grow. Her leadership has earned national recognition, including the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award and being named one of Houston’s Top 30 Influential Women.

Dr. Breaux earned the distinguished title of TASB Master Trustee through the Texas Association of School Boards’ advanced leadership program, a year-long, statewide governance institute for school board members. This recognition is a testament to her thoughtful, strategic approach to governance and her commitment to ensuring every student in Texas has access to a high-quality public education.
